Important Factors Concerning Menopause
Menopause is an important part of a woman’s life when she becomes infertile after reaching a certain age. She might face certain symptoms earlier which may be an indication to the advancing of the phase.
Menopause
is characterized by the phase in life when a woman feels the absence of the
menstrual period for 12 months or more. It is the time when the ovary of the
woman stops functioning and she becomes infertile. This means that she can no
longer get pregnant. The condition is common to every woman after they reach a
certain age. It is neither a disease nor a condition. Although this happens at
a certain age the symptoms might become apparent earlier. Some of the symptoms are
persistent and can continue for several years later.
Knowing the Symptoms
A menopause specialist in South Florida says that if one is not
having a menstrual period for over a year then menopause is confirmed to them.
Some of the common symptoms that they might have noticed earlier are as
follows:
- Irregularity in periods- The first symptom is the pattern change. While at this time some may not have periods for a month while others may have period every 2-3 weeks.
- Lower fertility- As the estrogen levels drop at this time, women are less likely to get pregnant.
- Vaginal dryness- One can understand that the vagina is dry from the discomfort and itchiness they feel in the area. Some may even feel dyspareunia or pain while having sex. Lack of estrogen may also cause vaginal atrophy in the women.
- Hot flashes- In this the woman feels a sudden heat in the upper body and she may start sweating a lot. The heart rate might also increase and the rates may become irregular and stronger than the usual times. If they happen in bed they are called night sweats and last a few minutes.
- Disturbed sleep- Night sweats, insomnia, anxiety may cause disturb to sleeping patterns.
- Urinary problems- Frequent urination and increased susceptibility to urinary tract infections might be seen in the woman.
Causes of Menopause
Perimenopause phase starts with
the reduced levels of production of estrogen and progesterone. This starts in
the late 30s. Also, the fertility of the women starts earlier than this time.
With passing time the ovaries remain no longer active. The expected age of
menopause in women is 45 but one may see premature menopause in some cases.
How Is Menopause Diagnosed?
A menopause specialist in South Florida or any other place can
diagnose menopause if he or she is provided information about the age and the
patterns of periods of the patient. Other than that a blood test measuring the
FSH can also provide with a definite answer.
